St. Patrick

Today people in hoards will be parading in green, wishing Irish greetings on one another, speaking with Irish accents and drinking green beer. None of these people will know that this famous saint was kidnapped at the age of 16 by pirates and sold as a slave in Ireland. After six years he escaped and made his way back to his parents in Britain where he studied for the priesthood, later becoming a bishop. He returned to Ireland where he served until his death. He is the patron of Ireland (and Nigeria), engineers, many dioceses, and those who fear snakes.
St. Patrick's Breastplate
Christ be with me, Christ within me Christ behind me, Christ before me Christ beside me, Christ to win me Christ to comfort me and restore me. Christ beneath me, Christ above me Christ in quiet, Christ in danger Christ in hearts of all that love me Christ in mouth of friend or stranger.
(390-461 A.D.)
