It is a joyous day for Lena Evelyn Taylor (nee Loisella)! At 97 years, she is finally in her happy place, the loving arms of Jesus. She was a proud, born and raised Albertan, bilingual, French Canadian, the second youngest of 11 children. Lena joined the Canadian Women's Army Corps in 1942, serving in Edmonton, Calgary and finally London, England. She was an accomplished pianist, playing in an orchestra in the 50's and later, the organist/pianist for her churches in Calgary, Kaslo and Kelowna. When she lived in Calgary, she worked at the City of Calgary Transit Department for 9 years. She loved to sew, knit, crochet, cook, bake, can, play for sing-a-longs, play cards, games and travelled with Terry to exotic places in retirement. While her life was busy with family first, she also found time to serve on the boards of the CWL and Legion, becoming President numerous times. Her stroke in 2016 set her back but she handled the last 5 years with courage and grace. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Sharon Butler, Linda Kish (Russ) and Rick Taylor (Carole). Four grandchildren; Dean William Kish, Rhonda Lee Smith (Mike), Sandra Carol Butler and Michelle Robin Lucas (Mark). Four great-grandchildren Elyvia Mica Smith, Leah Kathryn Smith, Jenna Taylor Lucas and Andrew Kevin Lucas. Many nieces and nephews will remember her dearly. Lena was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, the love of her life Horace Howard (Terry) Taylor in 2009. Also their daughter Kathryn Toner (Frank) in 2001. She was one of the very best, an inspiration and roll model for us all. We will miss you Mom, Grandma, Nana and Aunty. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of the Dover House in the Colonel Belcher Care Centre for their compassionate care of Lena. A Private Funeral Service will be held at Foster's Garden Chapel, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) and she will be reunited with her loving husband, Terry at a private family interment at a later date. Memorial donations in Lena's name can be made to the Veterans Food Bank of Calgary at Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family, via the website:
