our beautiful grotto
I'm sure most of you have had a chance to venture outside, around the back, and taken a moment to reflect on our new beautiful grotto. You can go to St. Peter's Facebook page under videos and watch the blessing of the grotto by Fr. Jerome on June 2/18. Kneeling and praying in front of the Blessed Virgin while listening to the water leaves one with a feeling of peace. If you look down while walking the path, you will notice the rosary is inserted in the stones so it's a nice way to say the rosary as you walk. Do you know what medal is inserted in the pathway? It is the St. Benedict Medal, please read on to understand the markings.
The vertical bar of the cross you see the initials “CSSML,” (Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux or May the Holy Cross be my light). On the horizontal bar of the cross are the initials, “NDSMD,” (Non Draco Sit Mihi Dux or Let not the dragon be my overlord). In the interior angles of the cross are the initials, “CSPB,” (Crux Sancti Patri Benedicti or The Cross of our Holy Father Benedict). There is an additional inscription at the top of the cross, “Pax” (Peace). Encircling the medal is “VRSNSMV,” (Vade Retro Satana, Nonquam Suade Mihi Vana or Begone Satan, do not suggest to me thy vanities). Following these words is “SMQLIVB,” (Sunt Mala Quae Libas, Ipse Venena Bibas or Evil are the things thou proferrest, drink thou thy own poison).
