Today is Easter Sunday, marking the end of forty days of prayer, fasting and almsgiving (Lent), as well as the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. It also marks the beginning of the month dedicated to the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Blessed Trinity. There are seven gifts of the Holy Spirit: Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety and Fear of the Lord. As well the Holy Spirit has twelve gifts: Charity, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Generosity, Gentleness, Faithulness, Modesty, Self-Control and Chastity. Following is my favourite prayer to the Holy Spirit by St. Augustine, which one is yours?

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Breathe in me, O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy.

Act in me, O Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy.

Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy.

Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy.

Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy.
